As a youth, Wade Meyers spent most of his time sitting in a field near his house watching the comings and goings of military aircraft
from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. He would then race home and build models of the aircraft he saw. It wasn't long before he discovered Barksdale's 8th Air Force Museum, which had a B-17 and B-24. He volunteered and ultimately
spent 17 great years involved in helping the museum to grow. Wade started flying lessons in high school and currently holds Commercial and Flight Instructor certificates.
After beginning with a line of prints done in pencil, Wade made the switch to color. He prefers acrylics because of the versatility and forgiving nature of the medium. Wade spends many
hours researching and composing his pictures, often using Descriptive Geometry for his aircraft perspectives. He sketches his backgrounds after looking through books to get a "feel" for the operating environment. Wade says that his goals in
art parallel those in his flying: "I'm always striving to learn more; to hone my skills and get better. It's a lifelong process."
Wade is the Collections Manager for the Southern Museum of Flight in
Birmingham, Alabama, where he lives with his wife Maria and their daughter, Audrey.
