n the Summer of 1940 the course of history was about to change, but how was yet to be determined. While the German ground forces paused on the east side of the Channel, the Luftwaffe began assaulting the British Isles with one of the most powerful aerial fleets ever assembled. They anticipated a quick victory and total control of the Europe. They got something quite different.
     Out numbered 5 to 1, the RAF had it's work cut out for it. But as the aerial battle over the Channel and green fields of England wore on, the skills, tactics, and determination of the RAF's young pilots strengthened, legends were born, and obsolete aircraft became symbols of freedom. Among them, the Hurricane. By September 1940, the Luftwaffe had been soundly defeated.
    Robert Taylor's print depicts Pilot Officer Geoffrey Page in the nearest Mk I Hurricane as he and his fellow pilots of No. 56 Squadron take-off on their third scramble of the day.
