The F-4 taxis forward to the block. Green shirts shackle the big fighter to the catapult. The crew does their final checks as their heart rate climbs. Full after-burner is selected and, with the hold-back taking the strain, the pilot salutes the catapult officer and waits for the catapult to fire. Within milliseconds the huge Phantom is hurled into the air and is on its way to North Vietnam.

This dramatic print print captures the moment as an F-4B of the VF-111 "Sundowners" launches from the deck of the uss Coaral Sea in the Gulf of Tonkin, 1972.
