"Ground Zero"
Ground Zero was meticulously researched by artist Don Kloetzke, including painting pieces of metal different colors and then burning them to see how the flames would discolor the paint.  Kloetzke's print depicts an A6M2 Zero from the second wave of attacking aircraft, piloted by Lt. Yasushi Nikaido, flying past the burning wreckage of the USS Arizona.

A peaceful Sunday morning is about to erupt into war as Lt. Commander Takahashi aligns his Aichi D3A1 Type 99 "Val" dive bomber with Ford Island's Hangar 6. By misinterpreting the signal flares which began the attack, Takahashi was the first to drop his bombs on Pearl Harbor and "wake the sleeping giant".

Includes a map which identifiess all of the elements in the painting.

Hawk of Haleiwa, December 7, 1941
 Piloting a P-36 Curtiss Hawk, considered obsolete and being replaced by the P-40, Lt. Harry W. Brown downed two Japanese Kate bombers over Kaena Point, Oahu, on that "Day of Infamy". Not only was he one of the first pilots to shoot down an enemy aircraft in WWII, he went on to become the first Ace of the all-P-38 475th Fighter Group.
