On June 29, 1965, 32-year old Air Force Capt. Joe H. Engle became the youngest ever to qualify as an astronaut after he piloted an X-15 to an altitude of 280,600 feet - outer space.

The X-15 proved the concept of manned, exo-atmospheric flight with re-entry to a pre-determined landing site, paving the way for the Space Shuttle.

This print is signed by Maj. Gen. Joe H. Engle.
