"The people, settings, and costumes are what make aviation history exciting and romantic to me", says James Dietz, and no one captures
people better than him. Building on an already successful career as a commercial artist, Dietz began pursuing his dream to specialize in aviation art in 1978, long before aviation art enjoyed
the popularity it does today. Dietz's career in the world of fine aviation art was boosted by exposure on the back cover of the Experimental Aircraft Association's member magazine, Sport Aviation, and also through an
annual aviation art competition sponsored by the EAA. When Dietz sold a painting entitled "Gone West", which depicts two WWI pilots and a German Shepard dog standing by the grave of a fallen comrade, as a result of his
exposure through the EAA art contest, he knew other people shared his interest in the human element of aviation, and his particular interest in WWI.Dietz won "Best of Show" in the EAA's aviation art contest
so many times that the title "EAA Master Artist" was created - originally just for him - which allowed Jim to continue to exhibit his work in the contest while making it possible for other artists to capture
the top award. In 1998 forty-four of Dietz's original paintings were gathered from private collectors, museums, and Dietz own collection for a special 3-month exhibit in the EAA Aviation Adventure museum in Oshkosh,
Wisconsin. Riveting Images is thrilled to be able to offer these James Dietz limited edition prints. |
