Warm Reception On January 25, 1943 an approaching wave of over 100 enemy aircraft were met by Capt. Joe Foss and his squadron of only 8 F4-F Wildcats, plus 4
P-38 Lightenings. Playing hide-and-seek among the clouds, Capt. Foss and his "Flying Circus" tricked the invading force into thinking they were outnumbered. This "brilliant tactical maneuver" saved Henderson Field and
Guadalcanal. L/E of 1250, S/N by James Dietz Autographed by Capt. Joe Foss and three surviving members of Foss' Flying Circus, VMF-121; Lt. W.B Freeman, Lt. Thomas Furlow, and Lt. Roger Haberman.

Best On Deck The early months of WWII were bleak ones for America - our planes were inferior to those of Japan and our Navy had been crippled at
Pearl Harbor. However, our fighting men were superior and this was proven at the Battle of Midway, America's first big victory of the war, when the men of "Bombing Six" took the fight back to the Japanese
while flying the aging Douglas SBD Dauntless. L/E of 750, S/N by James Dietz Autographed by Lt. Cdr. Richard H. Best 35" x 20-3/4" $150.00 |
